Hinning House

On the 13th March, Year 6 set sail for the Lake District with their wellies and waterproofs. Over the course of an amazing week, we discovered the beautiful countryside of Cumbria. We took part in a number of activites including: Waterfall ( ghyll) climbing,  mountain climbing and orienteering. We had a fantastic time and learnt lots about the countryside and how to not get lost in it! Here are just a few of our special memories...

This week, the children collected logs from the forest area to make their own 'ninja stars' and learnt to tie a specific knot to tie two wooden logs together. Using a range of targets, the children worked in teams to throw their ninja stars to try and get their own personal best score.

This week, the children built shelters using a range of materials and learnt how to tie knots. The children worked together to achieve their own bespoke shelter and had a lot of fun along the way!

The children in the EYFS department celebrated St Patrick's day today, they took part in different activities such as Irish dancing, soda bread making and tasting, making cards using different textures to collage a shamrock, making flags and a dancing leprechaun. They also watched a video showing how children in Ireland celebrate St Patrick's day and found out all about St Patrick himself, the children had a fabulous day.

We are very fortunate to have our very own Forest School located on the school grounds. Year 4 are the first class to use the new site. This opportunity will provide the children with a range of valuable experiences and skills. This week the children familiarised themselves with the new site, played a range of team building games and painted their own flag using mud paint. We can't wait for Thursdays to learn some new skills and have lots of fun!

Both the children and staff dressed up to celebrate World Book Day, and everyone looked FANTASTIC! 

The children all took part in activites based on the story of 'The lost happy endings' written by Poet Laureate Dame Carol Ann Duffy (From Manchester) and illustrated byJane Ray.

The children took part in a whole school assembly where they stood up to show their costumes off - Well done to everybody!

Mr Sutton held a book quiz which the children loved, a great day was had by all - what a happy ending to our day!!!

This half term we have been learning about Florence Nightingale.

This week we had a visit from FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE. It was wonderful. We had to help florence, scrub the foors, clean the windows and care for the wounded soldiers. It was a great way to finish our topic.

In Maths this week we made magical potions!

We used our knowledge of measurements to ensure the ingredients were exactly correct.

It was great fun and they tasted delicous!!

Last week a secletion of children from year 3 and 4 represented St Margarets Mary's in St Mathew's annual Multi Sports Competition. 

A big well done to Paige, Olivia, Lexie, Lola, Alfie, Charlie, Leighton and Chrisopher.

As part of their topic learning, the children learnt about how avalanches occur, the devastation they can create and ways to stay safe during an avalanche. The children re-enacted an avalanche and found safety under a parachute.
