We had a fabulous time at Hinning House in the Lake District.  We did lots of exciting activities such as orienteering, ghyll scrambling and mountain biking.  It was great to develop a range of skills including map reading, climbing and most importantly, team work! The food was delicious too!

This half term our English focus will be studying Macbeth. The work we do in class will support the children’s upcoming Shakespeare performance. This week the children identified the features of a playscript and acted out a scene. The children also explored some of Shakespeare’s language and we definitely liked his phrase “All that glitters is not gold.”

This half term our PE lessons will be delivered by MCFC. This week, we focused on attacking and defending and worked on our hand eye coordination.

The children have been focusing on drawing facial features to scale and with accuracy. They created a face using a range of pencil techniques to add fine details to specific areas of the face. The children were very surprised how well their final piece turned out!

The children used clay to create their own Gandhi sculptures. The children thought about the position of their statue and focused on the small details such as facial features and clothing.

The children were very fortunate to receive a visit from Anna Jackson and complete their sponsored workout. The children learnt about her life as a Paralympic athlete and a GB teammate. We were very lucky to ask her lots of questions and learn the GB secret cheer! #ROAR!

The children in Year 6 and the choir performed at the Bridgewater Hall singing a range of 80’s songs. The children had lots of fun singing, dancing and wearing items associated with the decade. The children also met the new Lord Mayor of Manchester - June Hitchen. Well done to all the children in taking part and learning the songs!

Today the children enjoyed taking part in a range of team building activities. The children worked collaboratively to solve a range of problems and considered the best ways to communicate in different situations.

This week, the children built shelters using both natural materials and tarpaulins. The children worked in small groups to create their ideal shelter and added furniture such as a seating area.

Today the children took part in 3 throwing events - shot put, discus and javelin. The children explored different approaches to find ways to make the equipment travel the furthest.

Continuing our learning on Refugee Week, the children discussed reasons why a person may need to leave their home . The children ordered 5 different homes and discussed whether they were safe or dangerous and ranked them in order.

Today the children conducted a Maths investigation using only four 4’s. The children were able to use any operation and used BODMAS to help them make other numbers. It was interesting for the children to consider how to make other numbers and vary their operations.

This week, we are exploring the text ‘My name is not refugee’ and discussing life as a refugee. Today the children reflected on life as a child during a difficult journey and considered items they would take with them. The children put a lot of thought into their items and considered what would be necessary to take and included some personal items.

The children had great fun trying different athletic events including sprinting, hurdles and long distance running. The children reviewed their own and peers performance and made suggestions to improve.

The children in Year 6 explored the forest school site by identifying the boundaries, finding potential hazards such as nettles and playing games. The children had a lot of fun and are looking forward to den building next week.

Wildlife in the local area, by Miss Dobie

Last half term, the children learned all about living things and their habitats. To review the children’s learning, the children have created a leaflet to inform people about local wildlife and researched both fauna and flora found within the school grounds.

This half term, the children will be working with MCFC to develop their skills in athletics and other areas of sport. Today, the children focused on the skills needed for football and handball.
