It was so lovely to welcome you all to the Macmillan Coffee Afternoon that we held in school on the 27th September. Thank you so much for your generous donations of cake and biscuits, together we raised a grand total of £453.69!

The Nursery enjoyed an Autumn walk and used their senses to find natural objects of different colours,

They explored the School grounds and found leaves, twigs and flowers.

Nursery French Day, by Mrs Hall

The Nursery enjoyed a taste of France this week as part of a whole School topic.

They enjoyed making French flags, singing French songs such as Frere Jacques and tasting baguettes and brie cheese as well as  playing some French games.

It was great fun and very informative.

 

Nursery Dig Dinosaurs, by Mrs Hall

The Nursery have enjoyed being Paleontologists and going on their own Dinosaur dig.

They were transported back 65 million years and found the remains of dinosaurs whilst using special equipment like real Archeologists and then sorting and classifying them.

Scientists believe that the dinosaurs may have become extinct because of a massive meteorite which blocked the sun causing plants and the food system to wither.

The Nursery have also enjoyed a variety of fiction books about dinosaurs such as "Gigantasaurus," "Dinosaur Roar," "Dinosaurs love underpants," and "Dinosaurs and all that Rubbish."

Nursery Visit the Lady Chapel in May, by Mrs Hall

Jack and the Beanstalk the Sequel in Nursery, by Mrs Hall

The Nursery have had lots of fun reading the story of "Jack and the Beanstalk."  

The book actually came to life and we found ourselves in the story!

The Giant even wrote to us and we wrote back!

Chinese New Year Celebrations in the Nursery, by Mrs Hall

The Nursery enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year.  They heard the story of the Great Race and how it is the year of the Pig. They found out how Chinese people celebrate, performed a dragon dance with instruments, tried Chinese food, Calligraphy, making dragon puppets and Chinese blossom pictures.

The Nursery have been doing some experiments about water and also colours.

They predicted what colours would be made when Primary colours were mixed and then tried it out.

They also found out how water travels using coloured water which mixed when it travelled.

Gruffalo Feast in the Nursery!, by Mrs Hall

Over the last few weeks, the Nursery children have enjoyed reading the book, "The Gruffalo," acting out the story and joining in the repeated refrains as well as using our creative skills to make a Gruffalo.   Our story culminated in actually participating in a Gruffalo feast!

Menu,  ...scrambled snake, Gruffalo eyes, fangs, terrible teeth, warts and all!!!!!

We have celebrated Christ the King's Feast Day by inviting our parents to help us make a crown. We have had a lovely afternoon. Thank you to those who came to celebrate with us! 

Fireman Visit, by Miss Howells

We were very lucky to have a visit from the very busy fire fighters. We asked lots of questions and were told about the very important numbers we need to call if there is a fire (999 and 112). We all took turns in squirting the hose on the fire engine and all sat inside the engine looking at all of their equipment. We had a lovely time, thank you for coming to see us!

Dental Nurse Visit , by Miss Howells

We had a visit from our dental nurse. She taught us all about the importance of brushing our teeth and not eating too much sugary foods. We all know how to brush our teeth properly and know that we should brush them morning and night. We spoke about going to the dentist who will check our teeth are healthy. Thank you for coming to talk to us!

Today, we had a visit from Just Youth. We learned about Our Lady St. Margaret Mary in preperation for her Feast Day. We now know that she was a nun and a very kind and loving lady. We spoke about how we can be kind and loving to our peers and adults around us. We spoke about what makes a saint and other saints in Christianity. We were each given a picture of a saint to colour in. We had a lovely time. Thank you for your visit!

Baking Hedgehog Bread, by Miss Howells

To celebrate Harvest we have made hedgehog bread. We began by mixing ingredience, kneading the dough and shaping the dough into hedgehog shapes. Once proved, we then used scissors to create the spikes for our hedgehog. We asked Mrs Doyle if we could use her oven and we left it to bake. We are very happy with how they have turned out, we hope they taste nice too!

Gardening for Harvest, by Miss Howells

On Thursday, we invited parents to join us for our gardening session. During our gardening session we talked about Harvest and discussed that the fruit and vegetables need water and sunlight to grow. We took turns digging and planting bulbs in the bed in our EYFS unit. We planted onions, radishes and daffodils. Thank you for joining us, we had lots of fun!

Police Visit, by Miss Howells

This term our topic is 'People Who Help Us' and we were very lucky to be visited by a policeman. He spoke about all the different ways he helps people in our community such as helping lost people and controlling traffic. We even got to see and go into his police car!
