Year 5 Grass Heads!, by Miss Percival

Date: 17th Apr 2018 @ 4:07pm

In year 5 we have been learning all about living things and how they grow and adapt to their environments. We decided we couldn't learn about growing and not actually grow anything! We have created grass heads using compost, grass seeds, a pair of tights and a yogurt pot! We placed the grass seeds at the bottom of our tights for the hair, then we added compost on top to form the head. Once we tied it off, we then placed our head in water inside the yogurt pot and decorated our heads. Over the next few weeks our germination process will take place and soon we should see some grass sprouting for our head of hair! We are very excited to see what happens and will let you know how our grass growth goes...

Even though ours aren’t in the Egyptian desert we still think they look spectacular!

EYFS Pirate Day, by Miss Howells

Date: 11th Apr 2018 @ 4:25pm

Our topic this term is pirates so we decided to invite our pirate friend Ron to hold an exciting day for the children in the EYFS. Our morning began with an interactive talk about pirates learning all about pirates and their adventures. We used our thinking brain to ask Pirate Ron lots of questions which we were bursting to know! Pirate Ron then told us a story about a princess who had her treasure stolen by cheeky pirates. We really enjoyed the puppet show and helping Pirate Ron keep the princess' treasure safe. In the afternoon, Nursery had lots of fun creating parrots and making repeating patterns on their new neckerchiefs. Reception spent the afternoon following Pirate Rons instructions by making their own pirate/mermaid hand puppets. They got really creative using lots of different materials. All of the children in the EYFS had a fantastic day and are really enthusiastic to learn even more about pirates in the next few weeks. Thank you Pirate Ron for your visit!

We enjoyed making chocolate egg nests as a special treat.

We noticed how chocolate melted in the heat and how it then cooled back and then discovered where chocolate came from and how it was made.

We also discussed if you could eat too much of something you love! Deciding that chocolate was something for special occasions like Easter.

Where does chocolate come from and how is it made?
