A key objective in year two is to understand the place value of a two - digit number. We used dienes blocks to discover all the different ways we could partion a number into tens and ones.

For example:

78 = 70 + 8

78 = 60 + 18

78 = 50 + 28

78 = 40 + 38

78 = 30 + 48
